Greetings to all Christians and those who has the world on their hearts
Every generation brings something new, every other brings a revolution.
I believe that the film industry if not the whole world needs a revolution.
We have grown used to seeing violence, crime, and all kinds of sin on television and film, and accept that as normal to film.
Yet these things could be used for positive change and conveying a positive…

Just two weeks and two days until the next SDF school begins. I hope all you students out there are cramming those movies in. And if you still want to apply, it's never too late. It's one of the best schools in YWAM but then I would say that because I've done it myself. It's such a relevant course in today's society, giving you the skills to tell stories and opening up a host of opportunities in the entertainment industry.
And speaking of stories, we've been filming An Unbelievably…

Spencer! that's the name we've chosen for our newest recruit. However, Spencer has yet to cut his teeth. He's the new boy, the posh kid that can do everything better than anyone else... and that's why he gets to sit in the corner. Needless to say, Spencer is a dual quad core PowerMac with 6Tb of hard drive and 8Gb of RAM.
It's only 4 weeks to go before our next School of Digital Filmmaking begins. Jason is up to his ears in prep work and actually most of that is for MAD, but anyway,…

Well, what an eventful couple of weeks. Here in The Initiative's studio the rough cut of The Bus Stop is nearing completion. Proby has been fixing an interactive kiosk that we have on the base. I've been digitally inserting our new logo into some video clips to replace our old logo in said kiosk. Charis has been up to her ears in marketing and promotional work and Josh came down with appendicitis - no doubt it will inspire another amazing story from this writing genius, whose script has just…

Top mention this week has to go to the shoot for Jason's short film, "The Bus Stop". Principal cinematography is now complete. We spent 14hrs filming on a city bus - through the night. The bus was delivered to our property at about 5.30pm on a Friday, just as the sun was going down. A couple of hours later everything was ready on set for the first take of the night. Many, many takes later, after lots of coffee and carbs the sun began to emerge. The race was on to get the last few shots before…

We're back in production mode. "The Bus Stop" began it's first day of shooting yesterday. By all accounts everything went smoothly, thanks to Jason's expert directing and the many extra crew members who have come on board - we couldn't be doing this without you, not to mention our actors/actresses who are returning some fantastic performances.
The Bus Stop is is a non-verbal romantic comedy from the creative mind of writer/director Jason Solari . We're so excited to be producing this…

It's finished! "Let Go", Charis' short film, is complete and
entered into the QNFA festival. We're all quite proud of ourselves,
though none more so than Charis. It was a hectic final week of post
production with Charis and Jonathan working until 2am on the last
Friday morning to get the music recorded. Many thanks to our composer
and musicians, Jeremy Lunnon and friends!
The final day of "Let go" was not without its hiccups though. With a
public…

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking in with us once again. The last
couple of weeks have have been a bit patchy. Jason has been focussing
on debriefing the Music, Art & Dance school. Charis and Beau have
been busy in the kitchen everyday and I've been editing Charis' film
'Let Go'.
The rough cut for Let Go is finished and features a haunting soundtrack
from a local composer whom we have good connections with. We'll be
submitting it to the 24th Warner…

We're back at work after a four day weekend; hope you had a happy
Easter too! It's good to see the western world still acknowledges
biblical events with public holidays!
It's been very quiet here at The Initiative, in YWAM Brisbane. All but
seven of us have been helping out at a massive gospel music festival,
known as Easterfest. The event attracts tens of thousands of people,
many of whom are not Christians. YWAM…

The Initiative's next short film 'Let Go' , written by Charis
Jackson, is a story about a girl who has to overcome her fears at an
audition. It's exciting because it's more abstract than our usual fare
and although it is being shot on a shoestring budget we have high hopes
for quality production design. We have secured locations at a stage and
some idyllic countryside and we also have actors from our contacts in
the local community. Pre-production has been top…

Welcome to the latest of The Initiative's blogs; an up to the
minute, albeit slightly irregular, update on the lives and events
happening here at YWAM Brisbane's digital film making facilities.
Tropfest, the nationwide Australian film festival arrived in Brisbane
two weeks ago. Although some finalists clearly had talent, it left the
staff of The Initiative feeling inspired that we have the creativity to
do better.…

Another School of Digital Filmmaking is complete and what a school
it was…We started out with fresh young faces, excited and nervous for
what lay ahead and through the course of three months churned out
bright young filmmakers with exciting futures.
The students this year were exceptional in their endurance. Every
obstacle facing them, whether it was losing actors at the last minute
or losing locations half way through filming they pushed through…

Last year during the School of Digital Filmmaking 08 we had an in class
assignment; a hands on experience to see what set life was really like.
It was called Trouble at Big River 08—a one scene short film. It worked
so well that we decided to do it again.
So with an entirely new cast we threw the students right into the thick
of set life. Take a look at the product of our work—Trouble at Big
River 09. Enjoy!
Check it out:…

The Initiative has done it again, their newest short film Pie Shop is in the editing stages as I write.
Pie Shop tells how two shop owners, working across the street from each
other, stuck in the monotony of life, discover its never too late for
something new. Pie Shop is a quirky romantic comedy written and
directed by Charis Joy Jackson. When asked about it she said that it
was “An experience!” and, “Every time we shoot a film I learn something
new.” Jackson,…

We have recently had a new addition to The Initiative “family.” His
name is Reginald, and he’s a new iMac. He is joining our old iMac
“Vicki” and helping us work. We have grown in the amount of work that
we do, and Reg, was looking for a new job. He interviewed with us, we
gave him the tour and the both of us decided that this was the place
for him. He has already shown his usefulness by completing several
projects. And now feeling left out are “Ron” and “Grandpa.”…

After a successful launch last July, The Initiative is in full swing and there’s no sign of them slowing down now.
Last July, Jason Solari along with three other School of Digital
Filmmaking (SDF) graduates began the road of pioneering a production
company under Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Brisbane. The Initiative,
appropriately named, raced to join in on the International 48 Hour Film
Festival, participated in a local theater production, shot several
promo…
